In the 30s and 40s of this past century, the Italian Navy decided to bestow an honour on Orologeria Panerai in Florence, with which they had already been collaborating for several years, by naming it trusted provider of aquatic watches for the squad of divers.

Thus, to meet the strict requirements of the Navy, the ideas workshop created by the Panerai family developed a watch and other precision instruments incorporating innovative technical solutions of great and revolutionary simplicity, solutions that turned these watches into an icon and that still allow to recognize immediately every Panerai.

Now then, the new Luminor Marina 8 Days is presented once again in a contemporary key, but faithful to the original period examples and with many of the innovations that have written the history of the brand. From this history, by the way, come two elements that encourage the minimalist aesthetic of the black dial: small seconds hand at 9 hours, a distinctive feature of all Luminor Marina models, and the inscription ‘8 Giorni Brevettato‘ at 3 hours. The power reserve of the movement with manual winding movement of caliber P.5000 is of 8 days, a historical tribute to the long power reserve typical in period examples with Angelus movements, the first that also incorporated the small seconds hands.

If that were not enough, the hermeticism of the new Luminor Marina 8 Days also pays tribute to the historical models and is tested to 30 atmospheres (300 meters). This hermeticism is guaranteed by three elements: the AISI 316L stainless steel case, the screwed bottom and the element that, more than any other, makes of every Luminor a unique and instantly recognizable piece: the iconic bridge protecting the crown, with the lever putting pressure on it to improve the hermeticism and protect it from accidental hits.

The vintage fascination of the new Luminor Marina 8 Days and its ability to recall the glorious history of the brand are also expressed in the engraving in the center of the bottom of the box. It represents a human torpedo (Siluro a Lenta Corsa or SLC), the means of attack used by the commandos of the Italian Navy to perform their underwater missions.
