Regardless of the product or brand of cosmetic you use, follow these tips when applying a makeup to avoid breakouts.

PRIMER

Do: Gently tap on the primer with your bare hands and apply the product on your face using a feather-light touch.

Don’t: Massage the primer in order to avoid irritation.

FOUNDATION

Do: Use bare hands with a feather-light touch when applying sheer or light coverage foundation. If applying powder or mineral foundation, brush the product on your skin very lightly for only a few seconds

Don’t: Use sponges or other applicators as this can cause skin irritation. Also, avoid fragranced foundation, and don’t wear full or heavy coverage foundation all day.

PRESSED POWDER

Do: Apply as gently and quickly as you can using clean, dry powder puff.

Don’t: Take the application longer than a few seconds.

CONCEALER

Do: Apply concealer lightly with your bare hands.

Don’t: Use heavy and greasy concealers.

BLUSH ON

Do: Use powder blush and brush it on you check for only a few seconds using a feather-light touch.

Don’t: Use liquid blush as this can be greasy and will worsen the condition of your skin.

BRONZER

Do: Apply bronzer gently and quickly using a brush.

Don’t: Use bronzer that cause your skin to itch. Bizmuth oxychloride, an ingredient common in many bronzer products, is said to promote itch and cause skin irritation. Get yourself a bronzer that doesn’t contain this chemical.

TINTED MOISTURIZER

Do: Use your bare hands to apply tinted moisturizer. Apply as gently as possible.

Don’t: Apply tinted moisturizer on top of another moisturizer. Use tinted moisturizer alone.

Makeup isn’t really a good thing for acne-prone skin, but that’s not to say you should just avoid it completely. The key is finding the right products for your skin and knowing how to apply makeup correctly.
