A puppy breed, the Tibetan Mastiff, was sold in China for about 1.44 million, which may be the most expensive dog sale today. The one year mastiff with blonde hair bought a real estate agent from an exhibition of luxury pets in the eastern province Seziangk, according to the newspaper Qianjiang Evening News. According to the breeder of the animal, Zhang Gengiun, the puppy weighs 90 pounds. The buyer is allegedly a 56 year old from Qingdao, who wants to be a dog breeder as well, according to the AFP.

This breed is descended from the mountains of Himalayas and Central Asia and the backround is very old, from the ancient times. The Tibetan Mastiff was raised initially as a hunter, guardian, guide and warrior. It is so powerful that it can even kill a tiger and has become a symbol of wealth for affluent Chinese with the result that sales prices have skyrocketed. The owners of this breed, however, describe him as a loyal and protective dog.
