The new smart fortwo 52 (71cv) is the first in the range to have the new dual-clutch automatic transmission. It has the design of an inline three-cylinder manual dual-clutch and has a total of six gears.
Both the clutch actuation and gear shifts are fully automatic, allowing to make very soft connections without interruption. Also allows a manual use of the selector lever in a hallway apart or using the shift paddles included in the sports package.
Thanks to the two half gearboxes, passing to the next higher gear or reduction to the next lower one becomes immediate, with no loss of tractive force. If necessary, the electronic management directly engages a gear instead of reducing successively. Thus, it offers the comfort of an automatic transmission and the efficiency of a manual one.
The new change happens in the smart fortwo 52 in April, which ensures a passage from 0 to 100 km/h in 15.1 seconds and a top speed of 151 km/h in exchange for 4.1 l/100 km and 94 g/km. It will be from June when this new dual clutch transmission is available in the 90 hp version and in the new smart forfour.
